While the Renault automobile company has been around since the 1800s, Ness Motors recently attained the Renault franchise for North of Scotland. This company has helped Renault Dealers spread across the globe. They also greatly value service to their customers. The Renault story is an interesting one. Founded by three brothers, Renault is now the fourth largest automaker in the world. Their alliance with Nissan helped them attain that title.
Louis Renault started the company in 1898 with help from his brothers’ knowledge of business and marketing. His brothers, Marcel and Fernand, ran the company’s finances while Louis designed the vehicles they sold. They sold their first vehicle, the Renault Voiturette 1CV in 1898. The client was impressed with how the car handled the steep roads when he took it on a test drive. As the original Renault Dealers, they had to find a way to boost their popularity, or their company would have never been successful. They decided to get their vehicles involved in motor racing. Louis and Marcel raced company cars in the city-to-city races held in Switzerland.
Unfortunately, Marcel lost his life in one of those races. It was the Paris-Madrid race in 1903 that he died in a car accident. Louis did not race after that, but the Renault Dealers still put their cars in the races. Ferenc Szisz won the very first Grand Prix motor racing event that ever took place when he drove a Renault AK 90CV across the finish line in 1906. That same year, Fernand Renault retired from the company because of health problems. As the final Renault brother, it was up to Louis to make sure the company carried on.
The Renault company won a great reputation for innovation from the beginning of their company’s life. However, in that time cars were a luxury that not every man could own. It would cost an average man ten years wage to buy a car during that time. Now, Renault Dealers can sell vehicles all over the world. They are now an affordable car, and some people call them a necessity. The Renault company makes cars, tractors, buses, trucks, and vans.
