Used Toyota BrandJune 20

The Used Toyota brand has taken a beating in recent months because of faulty vehicles. Dealers are looking to unload their inventory, which could equal big savings for you. However, do not expect a dealer to simply hand you the deal you want; you will have to haggle with the price since both of you have an objective. The dealer is trying to make as much profit as possible, and you are trying to buy a good, reliable car for as little as possible. Even so, you both can leave the negotiations feeling satisfied.

You are in a stronger position to successfully negotiate for a used Toyota when you have solid information about the vehicle that you are interested in. You should research the true value of the car before you walk into a dealer showroom and declare you want a particular car. Remember: you are a novice; dealers have a lot of experience with negotiating. It is part of their job. Never assume you know enough without researching. There are guidelines which can give you an added advantage once you decide to make a purchase. You want to feel comfortable with the salesperson before you begin negotiating. First, you should make an offer that is low, but within the ballpark range of what you are willing to pay.

Make up your mind ahead of time just how high you are willing to go with the price. Do not hesitate to leave when you have reached your limit. You should never purchase a used Toyota under pressure because you will most likely buy a car that you cannot maintain financially soon afterward, and by then it will be too late. Your strongest negotiating tool is to leave when it is clear that the dealer does not want to budge. Patience is definitely a virtue when you are negotiating a fair sales price. Never allow yourself to become distracted by pitches for items such as extended warranties or anti-theft devices. This might be the salesperson’s way of increasing the price beyond what you really want to pay. Once you have closed the deal, you will need to complete the financing and insurance process.
