I know that the environment is an important topic on many people’s mind (well it is when we aren’t in one of the worst recessions in decades) but I start to wonder why advances in renewable energy sources haven’t been as quick to action as many would have hoped. There have been some advances in the car industry but these new energy sources are not renewable. In fact many experts question the whole hybrid movement some saying that this is as bad if not worse than burning carbon monoxide into the air. This is mainly due to how the entire hybrid powered vehicles have been developed. For example the batteries that are used to power the hybrid vehicles are not bio-degradable in fact in some people’s hands they can be quite dangerous. In addition to this problem the car is partially powered by electricity which is created by burning various materials into the atmosphere. Therefore this option is not renewable and is still costly to the environment. Although there are several negative points to purchasing a hybrid vehicle at least it is a step in the right direction and certain car manufacturers have paved the way into this technology such as Lexus. This car manufacturer is owned by Toyota who also has two hybrid vehicles which are the Prius and Auris hybrid version. As Lexus has invested so much into hybrid top of the range vehicles which unless you purchase a used Lexus are priced well above £25,000. There are several advantages of purchasing a brand new Lexus but for many people this option is simply too expensive and in many circumstances perhaps a used Lexus is a more realistic option. The reason a used Lexus is possibly a better option is because the Lexus LS range for example is priced over £88,000. This is a full hybrid saloon range. Both model derivative options offer excellent quality and look modern and sophisticated. The hybrid versions also have the added benefit of paying no road tax. For these types of cars this is very important because any type of vehicle with large engines requires people in the UK to pay more road tax. This is why it is so important that new and used Lexus vehicles are able to provide customers with free road tax as the government tries to encourage people to start driving hybrid vehicles.
In the future more car manufacturers will follow suit in terms of investing in new eco-friendly energy. There is also the pressure in future years that oil will run out which will put tremendous pressure on car manufacturers to develop new vehicles that run on renewable energy. There are some experts that suggest oil will never run out but that is a whole different topic area and would probably require another even longer blog to explain that issue. Hydrogen would be one of the renewable energy options but at the moment the technology is not advanced enough to take advantage of this energy resource.
