Car Dealers NegotiatingJuly 20
A car is often the second largest purchase you will make, coming only behind the purchase of a home. Yet, all too often, people walk into a dealership and let their hearts rule their mind. This rarely turns out of be good as Car Dealers vary greatly in terms of what they offer. When choosing a new vehicle, you have to take almost as much care in choosing who to purchase from as you do in deciding which type of car to buy. A car dealer can make this a very positive experience or he can make if a very negative one.
First you will need to determine which type of car you wish to purchase. Evaluate the brand of the car as some luxury companies offer great cars, but service and parts can be hard to come by. When you car is in need of upgrade or repair, you want to have a dealer that will be ready to assist. Consider the service department hours of a particular dealership and see if loaner cars are offered. Many car dealers are now offering extended service hours and free loaners in order to get your business.
Take into consideration how long a dealer has been in business. Many dealers fail within the first year and, in this industry, longevity is a very good thing. Ask others about their experiences with a dealer. See if they would go back and if their contacts with the customer service department have been positive. Although this might not seem as important as the safety features or gas mileage of a car, it can be over time and you want to be as satisfied with your car five years down the road as you are the day you buy it.
Once you have decided on a car and begin negotiating with the car dealers, pay attention to your instincts. If something does not feel right, you may wish to look elsewhere. Many ignore this warning and come to regret it. Also, be sure to read all contracts carefully. If a dealer seems to be giving you a deal that is too good to be true, look for hidden fees in the contract. You don’t want to pay more than you absolutely have to.
