There have been a lot of comments that the production of bio fuels is causing world hunger. Some people say that the corn supply for food and grain is being used up for bio fuels. Others say the starch removed from the corn for fuel makes better feed corn for animals and that the actual corn being used is not the same sweet corn we eat at summer picnics. So who is right? I still don’t know for sure, but one thing that is clear is the US supply about 60% of all the corn supply for the rest of the world. This is not a stable situation.If we are the ones providing corn for so many others, then we do not have a corn shortage and the prices for corn products should not be costing us so much in the grocery stores. To save the rising costs, we need to take care of our own first. I know that there are missions that go to underdeveloped countries and teach them how to raise crops for themselves. So why aren’t they? Every country needs to become self-sufficient including us. If we need corn for bio fuels, then we need it and the others should fend for themselves. If the farmland is needed to produce more corn so we have a balance of food and bio fuels material, then this is where the government needs to invest the subsidies in. There is a massive amount of farmland that is not being farmed because the farmers cannot afford the seed and fuel to continue to farm our lands. The government has blamed the farmers for poor crop yields and poor quality.
